ANNOUNCES 2010-2011 SEASON

Charlotte, NC… (August 4, 2010) — CAROLINA VOICES, under the direction of David J. Tang, is pleased to announce its 2010-2011 upcoming concert series entitled SING! SING! SING!  Carolina Voices is Charlotte’s largest volunteer choral organization, with more than 150 voices and is known for presenting a wide range of music – from classical choral masterworks to holiday, pop and jazz.  The organization’s upcoming 56th Season includes four major concerts to complete its subscription series, plus three special events and a benefit performance in February.  The organization is also holding auditions for the fall season on August 28, August 31 and September 1 and is open to all interested singers. 

2010-2011 SEASON HIGHLIGHTS

Due to the popularity of its Singing Christmas Tree for KIDS show, Carolina Voices has added a second performance on Saturday, December 4.  Shows will be held at 11am and 3pm.  Family friendly ticket prices make it affordable at $10 for kids and $18 for adults.  Perfect for children age 3 to 8, it’s a great way to introduce cultural arts to young children.

Heroes – An American Celebration is a new Charlotte Memorial Day concert by Carolina Voices’ choirs, and including the Charlotte Civic Orchestra.  It promises to be a great family event with an evening of picnicking before an inspirational concert that salutes this important holiday.  The festivities start at 5pm at Myers Park Baptist Church, with the concert at 7:30pm.

The Festival Singers with director Donna Hill and friends gather together to open Carolina Voices 56th Season with a heartfelt gift of music at Thanksgiving.  Featuring special guests, the Charlotte Contemporary Ensemble, Carolina Voices’ jazz ensemble, Impromptu, and Providence Baptist Church’s Chamber Choir, the concert gives thanks through a repertoire of inspirational folk songs, traditional and Americana favorites, gospels and spirituals that are sure to leave you profoundly uplifted and moved.

‘Tis the season as the Charlotte community kicks-off the holidays with Carolina Voices 56th Annual Singing Christmas Tree!  The soaring voices of the MainStage Choir will fill the 32-foot decorated “singing tree” with festive new songs, seasonal favorites and some rockin’ arrangements from Artistic Director David Tang.  Special guests include an amazing array of regional artists including country sensation Caroline Keller, an exciting new gospel choir directed by Anthony Heath, dancers from Eddie Mabry Dance Studio, the nationally-acclaimed Grey Seal Puppets, and Carolina Voices’ own Impromptu ensemble.  Don’t miss this magical holiday event for the whole family!

A virtual sell out for the past two years, we’re pleased to announce a second performance of this holiday favorite for young families. Created especially for children age 3 to 8, the special 1-hour “Tree” offers just the right combination of holiday music, sing-a-longs, dance and puppetry.  Start your own family tradition this season with a charming holiday performance that’s perfect for the young “and the young at heart!”

Love-Sexy Benefit Performance– Friday, February 11- 7:30pm – 11pm

Impress your favorite Valentine with a delightful evening of romance, entertainment and sassy fun at this benefit performance for Carolina Voices.  The evening includes selections from the Love-Sexy concert performance, special “love song” dedications, dance tips from professional ballroom teachers, a silent auction, and delicious hors d’oeuvres and cocktails.  Best of all, proceeds go to support Carolina Voices programs.

You are invited to a star-spangled weekend as Carolina Voices’ choirs, Charlotte Civic Orchestra and Myers Park Baptist Church Choir present a patriotic salute to our armed forces and the all-American life.  Featuring a selection of inspirational music, from Randall Thompson’s Testament of Freedom to America the Beautiful, this concert is the perfect way to celebrate the Memorial Day holiday.  *Family Fun! Come early on Saturday night and picnic on the grounds of Myers Park Baptist Church.  There will be music and fun, plus grills to barbecue your favorites.

VOX presents a preview of their newest CD, featuring contemporary, classical, pop, jazz and world music, in collaboration with percussionist Jim Brock, local sax legend Jack Murray and more.  The CD and concert focus on two of today's most important issues: mankind's relationship to nature and to each other in ongoing armed conflict.  VOX's signature wide-ranging repertoire combines modern masterpieces like Eric Whitacre's stunning Cloudburst and Edwin Fissinger's In Paradisum with Carly Simon's Let the River Run, Paul Winter's For the Beauty of the Earth, and Vincent DeLap's powerful arrangement of When Johnny Comes Marching Home.  Don't miss this moving performance.  Tickets are limited.

Don’t miss one of the most dramatic and enduring portrayals of Jesus Christ’s final days on earth in this classical musical performance by Carolina Voices’ VOX.  The moving production will be accompanied by orchestra, with Rob Frazier playing Myers Park Presbyterian’s organ and featuring vocal guests Wingate College Chamber Choir with director Kenny Potter and regional soloists.

Auditions Now Being Scheduled

Carolina Voices, founded in 1953, is home to four distinct choral groups, including The MainStage Choir, Festival Singers, VOX, and Impromptu.  Members of the choirs are volunteer singers from the community who share a love and passion for music through song.    Each choir has its own repertoire which offers all levels of singers an opportunity to be involved artistically and to help build community.  Auditions are now being scheduled for interested singers on August 28, 10am-6pm; August 31 and September 1, 6pm-9pm.   Call Carolina Voices to schedule an audition appointment at 704.374.1564 or email bseitz@carolinavoices.org

Carolina Voices was founded in 1953 as the Charlotte Choral Society, producers of the first Singing Christmas Tree production in the United States.  The organization changed its name to Carolina Voices in 2000 to better reflect the diverse community it serves. Governed by a Board of Directors, Carolina Voices is an umbrella organization for four distinct choral groups totaling more than 150 volunteer singers.  Membership is by audition, with rehearsals and performances year-round.  Through Carolina Voices, Charlotte audiences are presented affordable, quality choral music in a variety of styles, from a cappella to jazz, as well as educational and outreach programs that are accessible to the entire community.
